Project Information

I recently completed a built-in bookcase and cabinet project that I've been working on over the last couple of weeks and I'm so happy with the way it came out. It has a base with nine drawers, a counter I built out of rough sawn maple and a section of bookcases on the top. I built the entire unit out of plywood, with Baltic Birch plywood for the drawer fronts. The counter turned out great. It was quite the project milling up all those boards of maple, I made a DIY jointer out of my handheld power planer to help me along!

For the drawers, I used my box joint jig I build previously for the table saw. I created 1/2 inch box joints for the fronts of the drawers, and that was a lot of box joints to make! The drawers turned out really nice though, and I finished them off with some brass hardware.

All together I painted the unit white and finished it with water based polyurethane for additional protection. I created a full video series of this build complete with design ideas, building the base, the drawers and the top, building the counter top and then finally finishing it all and installing it in the room. Please take a look at the video, and let me know what you think!

NICE ! That's a lot of storage for a "not-so-large" footprint!
