My new workbench. Made from kiln dried Douglas fir from a design by Jay Bates. This was a HUGE and risky project for me that came out better than I had hoped. I'm quite proud of it.

Another angle:

I'm still making new homes for my many displaced tools and supplies. My old workshop had ancient pegboard. I tore it down and sheathed the concrete block walls with OSB. That is my other bench, or "assembly table". I made that one about 10 years ago.

Just made this scrapwood bin:

Pretty standard small hobbyist dust control.

Thanks, man… feels good to hear that. I have to admit that I still go down there and turn on the light and just grin and think, "I built that!".

It's a nice design and it looks like you executed it well. Congrats.
What are your thoughts on the drawer/cabinet component under the bench? I am deciding to finally bite the bullet and build a bench similar, probably from Jay's plans.

I am interested in your experience on setback of the drawers from the front/rear apron? Anything you or anyone else would rethink?
thanks, T

I'm still awfully new to the bench, Tommy. I will say though that if I had enough other storage space that I might dispense with the cabinet entirely. It can get in the way with clamping and putting stuff on top of the cabinets, under the bench, seldom really works out when you start using holdfasts. Already I find myself putting the holdfasts in and hearing them hit something I have tucked away under there.

Mixed feelings about the tool bin. I love having it, but it limits across-the-bench clamping. Of course, I can easily remove it, since I didn't glue it on.

Buck_Thorne,
Thanks for the feedback. I hadn't considered the holdfast problems, I currently don't have any so hadn't thought of that. Something to keep in mind.

Thanks, T
