Gifts from afar!!!
Brotherhood between a savage and mad architect

When I joined LJ I expected nothing, and here I am 297 days later, so many kind people I have as buddies, a passion but best of all I got myself a third brother!
Ok - you will probably say I'm crazy now, and I am - I'm the mad architect, no doubt!
So who is this brother - the savage is our friend DIV.

Today the postman came, more precise one hour ago, and he brought me a pack from South Africa.
I ran into my work shop, and I was shaking like a little boy on Christmas evening, opened the pack;
It was like a little universe opened for me, first I met some wonderful pieces of wood, one of them are beautiful as a Japanese painting. then saw dust, then a match box for my daughter with pearls of quill and sweet little letter for her from Div's daughter (they are pen pals) - a fantastic quill, and then my eye discovered under the saw dust a little beautiful handmade shoulder plane, I was shaking as I took it in my hands (and yes I had tears in my eyes) - it had even a little brass knob in the back (I think this is a reference…), so I was a big smile full of tears when I read the letter for me - but it did not end there! In the saw dust there was one more little beauty - a handmade little trim plane. Red wood reminding me of the first project I noticed Div had made on LJ!
Wauuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu
What can I say! I'm so lucky to be in this beautiful life with colors I never thought I would see. Thank you for opening my eyes Div.

Div you are with no doubt my brother of soul and heart,
love you man,
Mads

Fantastic post. I love the brotherhood that we all share. I feel spoiled when I see posts like this. It brought a tear to my eye, and warmed my soul. Thank you Mafe, for recognizing Div publicly. We called these, "Care packages", when I was serving with the US Marines overseas. It felt like Christmas. God bless you DIV.

Info:
The rebate plane is made from Panga Panga.
The litte red trim plane from African Pauauk, wedge from African Blackwood.
The blades from a old Jointer blade, all hand made for me!
The quills are from Porcupine.

Think this is how it looks.

In Denmark they look like this, and are called 'pindsvin', direct translated: stickpig!.

My God! Some one get that smile of my face!

For a savage he makes some great looking planes and has remarkable taste in wood. ;)

What a great story of friendship across country and continental boundaries.

Hi Mafe
Wonderful story, this is what Lumberjocks is all about. I'm sure there are many stories out there that could be told. Friendships are hard to come by, and should be cherished just as you have. I have met some very nice people here also.
