Project Information

After moving my in-laws on to my lot next door, I constructed a little bridge for them to cross the ditch to get to my house to drink coffee every afternoon. All treated lumber, deck and hand rails are from 1"X6" pine, base is of 2"X6" pine, all posts and bracing are 4"X4". Balusters are 2"X2" pine. Bridge is 6' wide and16' long. All posts are cemented and braces are bolted together with 1/2" threaded rods, flat washers, lock washers and nuts.

After heavy rain, it will fill up but drains very quickly. I didn't want to creat any log jams, there are no posts into the middle of ditch. Thanks

Haha, I was going to ask about adding a gate with a lock.
Bridge looks very sturdy and should last a long time

Really nice job all around. Where did you get a 16' length of 2"x6" pt pine? Did they stock that at the orange or blue big box stores? Or did you go to a lumber yard for it?

You have "2×6, 2×8, 2×10" available in 16 foot lengths at your local blue box store? You're lucky.

I can say this about Upstate South Carolina, during the summer months they were a scarce item, and the cost was way up. Which seemed to be the new normal throughout the States.

American or European swallow? Regardless, if it's wide enough for my golf cart it's great and even if it isn't it's great too! Nice work.
