Project Information

Drawbored Breadboard end cutting board made of Dibetou wood with through haunched mortised and tenon joinery ala Paul Sellers. It is finished with just 2 coats of mineral oil. This is the 2nd cutting board like this I've made this month for Christmas gifts. I like this one far better than my first and it turned out a lot better too. I have one more to make and I've got this down to about 3-4 late nights of work, so 15-20 hours a piece. FYI, I picked up about pack of this wood from my local lumber yard for $1.50 board foot and it's turned out to be a great wood to work with. Similar in hardness to I would say oak. Pares and chops easily also planes well with very little tear out. This stack came with some nice 15"-16" wide x 16' long boards which I'll be using for hopefully my tool chest. If there was more there, I'd go back and buy whatever they had left.

Possibly why your dealer had limited stock ;
"Dibetou is dominantly imported from tropical Africa. The wood is not cultured. The deforestation of tropical wood causes serious local environmental problems and is related to the climate change in the world".
aka : African Walnut. Good looking board : )
