Project Information

I built this coffee table for my brother a couple months ago, and left it for them to finish. They just sent me pictures of the finished product, and I'm pretty pleased with it! Red oak with a minwax stain and polycrylic.

I am still mostly working with hand tools, so the top was jointed by hand, breadboard tenons cut with a rebate plane, then a hand saw, groove with a plough plane etc. Skirt is drawbored into the legs. I loved working with drawbored mortise and tenons - glue up is way we easier when the joints hold themselves together even without the glue!

If I could do it over again, I'd make the whole thing a bit beefier - 5/4 or 6/4 for the top, thicker legs, wider breadboard end and skirt. But overall I think it came out pretty well!
