A beautiful thingy for sure. Very nice turning.

I dont have a lathe but it looks to me like that thingy (the bark) should have exploded as you turned it. You do very nice work.

Bark can be pretty tough, dependent on species. This had the benefit of support on two sides instead of the typical one, as well.

What was the moisture content on this piece when you turned it? Love the luster and how white it is. I have some fresh bradford pear cut up into large blocks and sealed, so wonder how long it took you to get it to where it was dry enough to give you the white sheen.

I'm not sure, I roughed it out a few months ago. Probably in the 13-14% range I'd guess. It doesn't stay this color long even dry. It starts going pinkish under wax in a few days, then mellows to a light reddish caramel type color.
