Project Information

Made this box for my fiance' for christmas. Ends are curly maple. The grain is really much more figured and beautiful than the picture shows. The front, back, and bottom are black walnut. The inlay in the lid is madrone burl. This is my first post here, and i'd like to say that some of the things you guys make are amazing.

Very beautiful box with madrone burl inlay. Great work!
You made your own burl veneer for the inlay?
How do you cut paper thin veneer without tear out? I usually use utility knife, sometimes I cannot avoid tear out or breaking it.

It's not a veneer, it's really about an 1/8" thick. I cut out the grooves using the table saw before I banded the lid with the walnut. I don't know if that is the correct way to do things, but it seemed pretty easy to me at the time.
