Project Information

My daughter mentioned she would like a long box as a centerpiece for her table. She wanted to put 5 1-quart mason jars in it and I assume she will be filling them for more decoration. I did a little internet search and found that people call these planter boxes. many of them in etsy shops, etc.

She said she didn't want it distressed or too rustic.

I've been wanting to try box joints, so I built a jig after researching and watching videos on you tube. I got a dado stack for Christmas and just had to try it out!

I used Red Oak, and 1/4 inch red oak plywood for the bottom. 1/4" box joints and cut a dado for the bottom to fit in.

I had actually built a prototype out of some scrap pine, and it looks pretty good too. I'll just have put some finish on it and find some use for it.
