Showcase cover image for Bottle Openers

Project Information

I made two more bottle openers as birthday gifts for my coworkers. These are birdseye maple, and I added a magnet to catch bottle caps as they are removed. I riveted the quarters in place with 1/8" brass rod, peened with a hammer. Finished quickly (I was short on time) with several coats of amber shellac, one coat of satin poly, and renaissance wax. I didn't get very good pictures… taken in the office before giving them away.

Yep, the rivet is all the way through. I peen one end of the rod, insert it through the wood and coin, saw/file it nearly flush, then peen the other end.

That is very understandable using the Quarter. I build one similar and needed some washers, they charged me .27 each at the local hardware. OUCH!!
