Project Information

I had decided it was time to surprise Blondie with something for a change. There have been a lot of projects that left the shop and went to other customers or friends and family as gifts. She had noticed this Jewelry Box while reading Wood Magazine Dec/Jan 2009/2010 addition and Loved it!

( Yes she reads my wood magazines…. LOL ).....

I decided to use some of the Blue Oak & Cherry I have in the shop. The Blue Oak comes from Rob at, "Tule Peak Timber" here in Southern California. I used maple for the drawers. I tried a new technique for me, flocking the drawers which went well. I do have one small touch up on pic #5 were the pinner scrapped a small part while gluing and attaching the drawer fronts.

I used 8 coats of Enduro Wated Based Finish by General Finishes, sanding with 600 in between.

The magazine says build it in a weekend. Hmmmmm not sure how long their weekends are. They must be like the Chefs on TV & have everything processed and cut ready for them. While I'm sure I could do the next one quicker still not convinced a weekend it long enough ">)

She Loves it which is what counts..

Hope you like it and thx for looking, all comments and advice for improving are welcome

Excellent and first class!!! The curved front really adds a nice touch over a standard flat front box.
And WOW, I wish my wife would read woodworking magazines. She has no interrest in my shop except requesting woodworking projects..that I am always happy to make

Nice Ken. That blue oak is pretty and the cherry is always a winner. I made a few of these and found this project to be a real hit. By switching wood varieties from what the WOOD specs called for you really made it your own.

Hey Ken!

That is ONE COOL jewelry box!

I'll find that issue and look into it… Maybe I'll leave it out, turned to that page, etc. so my wife will see it…
I doubt if that would do any good… but I'll try it…

Sure looks COOL…

I think you did a great job on it… Thank you for posting it!

Very nice Jewelry Box, excellent job of duplicating this project, seems to me that duplication involves added skill sets and a real attention to detail, thanks for sharing

I SECOND ALL OF THE ABOVE
GOOD JOB !!!!!

ONE TIP
I USE COINS FOR SPACERS AND THEY ARE ALLWAYS HANDY
I JUST REACH IN MY POCKET AND THEY ARE MORE COSTANT IN THICKNESS
SMALL DRILL BITS ALSO WORK GREAT IF YOU NEED TO CHEAT A LITTLE
YOU CAN GET THEM IN 1/64" INCREMENTS

Thx again everyone,

Roger it is flocking, the first time I have tried this. I used thin maple for the drawer dividers and just glued them in. The had a snug fit to start with.

Kiefer- Great idea on the coins, sometimes its easy to get tunnel vision when working on things.

Thx again, it means alot when people I respect support my efforts to improve & grow as a woodworker.
