I have often said that maple and cherry were my favorite wood combination. You did very well both in the wood selection and in the construction of the piece as well. The spalted maple is gorgeous. You should be proud of this piece it is excellent.
I am glad to see that you are sharing your talents as well with your two daughter's-in-law. But I guess that you knew you couldn't just build one when you started this.
Wow, that is gorgeous! That spalted maple is amazing. How did you find such wide panels of the spalted maple? It must have cost a fortune. Really nice woods and design. And that cat carving is amazing too! Looks just like a real cat.
hey Blake, actually the maple and cherry was a find my son found for me.Boarde were 12 inches wide and 8to10 foot long.Igot 20 maple and 20 cherry for a dollar a board.the guy was going to auction them off but was glad to get rid of them in a hurry.had enough good spalted for 2 chests
This chest is a true inspiration, your choice of material is exceptional and the 4 panel design is in perfect proportion. It inspires me to rot some of my own maple and try something similar. The cherry and maple look amazing together.
Thanks you for sharing such an inspirational piece.
