Grumpy you've made a great looking set there.

I'm curous about Autralian blackwood. Can you tell us a little about it…density, brittleness, grain texture, stability, etc.? It looks like a beautiful wood.

Martin. Australian Blackwood, some refer to it as Tasmanian Blackwood, but it also grows on the mainland. It is a fairly dense therefore heavy hardwood. Suitable for furniture, musical instruments, turning. Also used in flooring.
I found this piece of burl was a little powdery when I drilled it & it tended to gunk up the the drill flutes more than most other wood types. Easy to sand provided you go down the grades & will provide a very smooth finish. Turns well & takes a wipe on poly nicely.
