This is a variation of the candy plinko design that Steve Ramsey shared a while back. I chose to use black walnut, real glass front, and brass pins. This turned out better than I expected. It can dispense plain M&M's, Reese's pieces, Skittles or any other 1/2" candy. Games can be created based on where the candy lands. I chose not to put any labeling on this to enhance the beauty of the walnut.
I used 3 coats of water based urethane for the finish. The most time consuming part was cutting the 166 brass pins and drilling the receiving holes for those pins. I drilled the holes tight so that glue was not necessary to seat the brass pins. The glass is 1/10" single pane that is set in a dado channel I created using the standard saw blade on my table saw. I used mostly 1/2" black walnut with a few 1/4" pieces and Tightbond II glue.
I have received so many requests to make more of these, however, if time is worth anything I don't think people would pay what I have into making it. Super fun for the kids and the limited dispensing of 1-2 pieces of candy helps the supply to last a little longer!
