Long description: I really like the grain of Black Palm (who doesn't?). Anyway I got this small block of wood as a cut off from a friend years ago, and cherished it until I knew what to do with it. I used my other friend's lathe, who doesn't have an LJ account, to turn the mostly round shape as seen in the photos. Since I don't own a lathe, I don't do much turning…. turning this black palm was like turning a bundle of needles. I got it pretty round with tooling, keeping them sharp always helps, then sanded for a good while. Drilled a blind hole and epoxied on to the rod. I would do it again.

Wood: Black Palm
Finish: none
Dimensions: 1.75"

Nice knob! I've a turning blank of black palm that I bought for the grain (agreed, nice!) but I'll be using steel gauntlets to handle it when I get to working on it. Even with hands accustomed to working as a mechanic for decades, this stuff still manages to stab me with splinters. It's like the big bother of Ipe, in that regard.
