Project Information

I bought some Big Leaf Maple Burl on Ebay and I resawed it into 3/4" thick and made a clock. The wood became quite undulated because of the uneven drying of the wood. So I just kept the uneveneness and sanded it with a ROS. The finish is Penofin it is soaked in and then wet sanded with additional Penofil and 600 grit ROS. I used the Marine version of the finish because it is 99% UV protector. I notice that they now have a hardwood version of their finish that is 99% UV also. I'll have to try to find it.

Those of you who were part of Schroder's discussion on getting some Big Leaf Maple wood that was slated for pulp wood. Some of this wood is what you could have expected.

I set the time to 2:27 in celebration of Martin's 27th birthday today. And to do my part in trying to get to 1000 projects today. I was going to hold this one back and try to dump it in at the last moment to try to get it to be #1000 but then I'd sit here all day waiting for that to happen.

Then I could have ended up like Debbie when she tried to get Rick to be the 500th Jock and he became #501.

So send me your address Martin and I'll make you a clock and send it off.

Beautiful clock Karson.
I looks like it can be used as a Mantle clock. Good idea.
And a Happy Birthday to Martin

Maybe it's just me, but this kind of wood always reminds me of coral. Maybe it's the way it's left raw but your treatment and respect for a really fine piece of wood is just great Karson. A heavy piece of wood that has a light and airy feel to it. I think this is a great example of just adding enough to what mother nature has already created to make a stunning object. Thanks Karson!

Karson, very nice. Just don't add a maple leaf pendulum or Mr. 1,000 will be jealous.
