Project Information

Well you may have thought I had given up on Woodworking or maybe Lumberjocks. But no, I have been working hard on this box.

Started in 2012, it has suffered from severe procrastination, and distraction on various other projects.

This box is made mainly from recycled timber. The pale timber is most likely Hoop Pine reclaimed from a kitchen table top that had split quite badly and an old ironing board top. The detail trim is Red Cedar from some old table legs and the centre panel on the top is Silky Oak from another table. Unfortunately the Silky Oak table had been quite abused and there were numerous holes in it (I think someone had used it as a work bench). The detail on this panel was necessary to mask these holes. Despite this pragmatic beginning, the top detail is quite appealing. To me at least.

There is also some Red Cedar panels for the upholstery and Kwila for the draw frame.

The draws are dovetailed front and back, but the front half blind DTs are masked by Red Cedar trim.

All and all I am extremely happy with it.

Be well.

Very nice, especially finding ways to reclaim good looking timber.
