Project Information

This is my shop stool I made yesterday to give me a place to sit when making plans and to take a rest .

I am sure it will find may uses like a work support or tray or whatever .
The cantilevered stool or seat attaches to the top and bottom stretcher of my bench by the vertical piece going behind the top stretcher and on top of the bottom stretcher .The seat is easily removed by lifting and pushing the bottom retainer upward .
For storage I place it between the legs of the bench and it locks in place the same way .
The stool is made from SPF ( spruce pine fir ) with a piece of cherry for the bottom latch and a couple jatoba dowels .
Almost done with the new bench and vise but thought I post this before I post the completed new bench so you don't think I am just sitting around .

That looks truly comfy.
I'm pretty sure it would tip my little bench down here in Az. But it looks like you've got it well engineered for yours.
I find I sit a lot more at the bench these days than in the past. ...... Wonder why.

Thanks Patron
May as well be comfortable and enjoy it .

Thanks PAUL
The bench I am building should be about 350# so I will have to watch my weight and I may have to install seat belts in case I take a nap .
Yes the old legs and feet are not what they used to be .

Thanks Hoss
Make the bench heavy and big ,waiting to see yours .
Make sure your bench is heavy enough to handle it .

Thanks PETER

Oh yes, that sure is the best seat in the house alright! But it's hard to believe that you will be sitting at that seat too often, knowing that your always busy making some great projects all the time.
Nicely executed Kiefer!

Great shop solution and a heck of a lot better than the "store bought" stool I acquired this week.

Great idea and design. If I made one for my worktable it would have to be upholstered and recline for those nod off moments…

Nice. New one on me too.
My bench is probably heavy enough… got to think about this one.

Good idea! I like the fact that it doesn't take up any floor space and there's no need to pick it up or move it out of the way when you sweep the floor.
