Bentwood Rings

beautiful. The rings, and the photos. I'm going to have to try this style of ring making next… lest I make a dozen more that still don't fit my wife!

Thanks, scottb! I'm enjoying the work you are coming out witih as well! I'm really aching to try some osage orange in the bentwood style (special thanks to your brother-in-law ).

I was making all of my prototypes or "show rings" to my size, but have since started making many of them to my wife's size (or making two of each ring in both sizes). LOL! We both have quite a handful of them now. I personally wear this one bentwood ring in particular (zebrawood finished with Mike Mahoney's Walnut oil). Have had it on for over a month now, just to see how well it holds up to handwashing and everything else. As with my metal wedding ring, I have not removed it. So far, so good!

Some with the bentwood style, are you telling us there is a seam in there somewhere? Cause I can not see one….

Robs: Thanks! They do have a seam, but I try my best to hide it. I never leave a straight cut on the ends (that would make the seam very apparent) Instead, I cut it to a point or irregular shape. Depending on the wood, I sometimes get creative with the grain to have it match up. In all cases, I feather the ends with sandpaper.

Thanks, Gary! It would be a loooong (and maybe even boring to some) video. HA HA! I'm thinking about doing maybe a pictorial type deal to put on our website. Got lots of ideas but the orders are kinda preventing me from doing some of the neat things I'd like to do with our site (but I guess that's a good problem - heh).

Incredible work. I saw your rings on here and it has inspired me to try the process on my own and see what I can come up with. I don't normally work with my hands on anything - I am a web/graphic designer and needed something to pull me away from the computer and get my mind on something else.

I do have a question for you though on part of your process. I noticed on one of your posts that you have an acrylic finish on the rings to help make them water-proof and last longer. How do you go about getting the acrylic finish on the rings?
