Ok, it's time I got my workshop posted on LJ's! My shop is actually an old service station. The shop area is 29'x42'x12'. It is heated with (2) ceiling mounted NG radiant tube heaters. The floor is sloped concrete (which is a PITA!) with a large floor drain in the middle of 1 service bay (which is very nice to have). This bay has a 10' overhead door. The other bay has the old, in-floor car hoist in it yet. I plan on removing it soon as it's a pain to work around and it's something I will never use. I would like to level the floor…maybe with wood, to ease the pain in my back, knees, feet, etc., but I do not want to loose the floor drain. Having a slope to the floor makes it difficult to level benches, tools, etc. I recently finished replacing the ceiling and 3 outside walls with "pole barn tin". Lighting is 12 8' tandem T8 fixtures. With white walls and ceiling, it is pretty bright, but still not bright enough for my aging eyes. There is also 2 glass block windows, about 5'x6' each, on the SE wall. When I had the electrician install the lights, I also had him re-wire the shop in conduit and had several 220v recepts placed aroung the perimeter. There's 14 110v 2 gang recepts around the perimeter and 1 on the support post in the middle of the shop. The electrical upgrade is fantastic! For tools I have: Sears 10" contractor TS, Delta 14" BS, Sears 14" floor model DP, Sears 12" lathe, Sears 6" jointer, Delta 6"x48"x12" floor sander, Sears 10" RAS and a Bosch 12" sliding compound miter saw. I was on a Sears buying kick about 20 years ago when I bought my first house and restored it. The Delta's and Bosch are my most recent additions. While the Sears stuff have served me well, I am considering upgrading most of them. I have the usual corded and battery hand tools, with the Bosch drill/driver and impact driver my favs! I'm now in the mood to restore old hand planes and hand saws, so am gradually obtaining more of them. My immediate plans are to get water re-installed in my shop. I also need to build some lumber storage racks in the 42'x40' cold storage are of the building. I have plenty of space, just need to organize better! 4/12/2013 updated. Ok, sold the old shop about 6 months ago. The first 2 pics are of the old shop. Pic 3 is the beginning of my new shop. It is an old barn, 20'x24' that is on my home property. After I got it jacked up and put on a new foundation (oh yeah, it fell down while I was raising it) I wired it, insulated it and installed knotty pine/aspen mixed v-groove 1×6 planks. Painted the ceiling white. Have 4 8' T-8 fixtures and some accent lighting. I salvaged some old 1×8 pine boards from another barn for the floor. Stained it a dark brown to contrast with the walls and put on 3 coats of water-base floor urethane. I'm now in the process of moving in my tools and organizing it. More to follow after everything is in place.
