Project Information

This live edge table is 7' long by 35" wide. The wood is beetle kill pine from the rocky mountains of Colorado. The top is 1.5" thick with epoxy coating and live edge on all 4 sides. Legs are 4×4" and apron is 1.75"x3.5". The 2 benches are 58" long to fit between table legs. The chairs I made with all 1.75" square stock and the 4 backrest pieces are 1.25" thick. The top rail on the chairs is also live edge to match the table. I also made my client a 11" round nightstand table for a clock to sit on. I still don't have any chairs for my own home, maybe someone will make me some? Monte Pittman, get started on that for me, I'd like 5 please!

Absolutely gorgeous. I have seen a lot of tables on here and I have to say if I were to buy instead of build I would be looking for something like this. Those chairs look great. I love the knot on the top rail of the chair. All these chairs people one here make put mine to shame. Id love to see a "how to" video on the chairs!

JSB, You're in luck, later this month I'll be doing a how to video on Chairs! I did one last week on tapered bench legs.

I am waiting on the how to on chairs as well. Then I'll make and deliver your chairs. It'll cost you supper though :)

Beautiful work as always.

Wow! Gorgeous! What's with the clear 4×4 legs tho? Not Beatle-kill?

Oh yea, and I love how you left that knot's natural line on the back of that chair too.

Good looking rustic furniture !
I may be mistaken but thought the bark had to be removed from pine beetle killed lumber to stop the spread of the beetle .
Please set me straight on this .

The graining and coloration are just breathtaking! Is pine like this available in other loctaions for use by consumers?

Thanks!

There is no bark on this set. The loggers are supposed to cover a pile of logs with a black tarp for a couple weeks to kill the beetles with heat. I think there are some other methods as well, but I can't say if anyone actually makes any effort to kill them. The beetles usually only stay on the tree for a couple weeks until it's dead, then move on. I've found live larva in logs I've cut, but no live beetles.
