Project Information

The tree guys dropped of some wild cherry a while back. Decided to make a few bowls from it. Tried doing a rounded over lip on one. A couple had embellishments from a Sorby texturing tool and burned rings.

Found a piece of elm that was on the ground for a couple of years and spalted nicely but split during drying. Some gold colored wired used to "repair" the split.

Tried my first "square" bowl. Made from scraps of walnut, cherry, poplar and red oak.

A little end grain walnut bowl with rounded over lip and foot. The heart wood was almost perfectly centered in the sap wood.

Some finished with mineral oil and bees wax, others with wipe on poly.

Thanks for looking!

Nice looking bowls Lew. Your embellishments added to some really nice grain made for great visual interest. I especially like the spalted Elm and it's Frankenstein stitch job.

Wonderful work, Lew. I'm especially pleased with the stitch job on the one. You'll notice, if you look up at the top of the page, this has been favorited one (1) time. That's me. Who loves ya, baby?

I really like the texturing on the one bowl. Not that all of the work isn't good, just like that one over the rest. ;)

I love the artistic details with which you embellished each of the bowls. I never would have though of stitching the crack like that.
