Project Information

This was my first attempt at a "basket weave" illusion turning. I have seen this type of design by a handful of turners on the internet and had to give it a try. (If your interested in this type of project, search Harvey Meyer on the internet. He has made some awesome designs.) Most of the beaded rings are made with a 3/16" beading tool from D-Way tools. The center ring (1/4") was made with a Sorby beading tool. Then all the longitudinal lines are marked with a pencil and burnt with a burning tool. I used 3 different colors for the pattern. This was a good learning experience. There are a couple of mistakes; hopefully not too noticeable. The sphere is made from segmented maple rings. Overall dimensions approximately 12" x 12". I made this vessel in two pieces; much easier to clean out the inside this way.
