Project Information

I have an ongoing series of commissions to outfit a camper trailer with various bits of built-in cabinetry. This is the first of those pieces - it's designed to hold a few bottles, some barware (cocktail shaker, etc.), and a few martini glasses.

Most of this is 3/8" thick black walnut, resawn from 4/4 rough sawn material. The back is 3/16" plywood with a shop-sawn walnut veneer.

The corner joinery is all hand-cut through dovetails. The material is thin enough for the pins to be too narrow for my narrowest chisel, so I ended up splurging on the Veritas 1/8" detail chisel. I can't recommend it enough. The shelf and partition are set into dadoes in the case. I really really wanted to do wedged through mortises into the case for the shelf and partition, but the client wanted a cleaner appearance, so I left it with just dadoes.

The finish is wipe-on poly, followed by paste wax.
