Project Information

This was my first larger project and second attempt at drawers. I'm very happy with the way it turned out as I just had a rough idea and built as I went. The desk was a Christmas present for my mom and I cut all the wood out of my grandmothers corn crib, so it was a very inexpensive build. I left it unfinished so my mom could decide what she wants to do and for the time being it is still unfinished…

Very nice desk, you built an Heirloom with a lot a lot of memories around your grandmothers Old Corn Crib. A Great gift for your mother.

That is beautiful, I agree with the nothing more than a clear finish, that wood has too much character to cover up.

It's a JD 70, storing it for a friend until he gets it finished, it has a ways to go. Appreciate all the compliments. Just started accumulating larger tools the past year but it's definitely time for some work benches. I'm getting tired of working on the ground.

I agree as well with the clear finish. Do you guys have any suggestions for what kind of finish to use? I enjoy the building portion but am definitely lacking experience on the finishing side of things.

System Three, out of Auburn, WA, makes a variety of finishes that can be applied over a clear, or tinted stain.
Their major market is aimed at boat builders, but I used a couple products of theirs, including a top coat that really toughens a finish. I used it on a home built tonneau cover for my pick-up. It won't require a refresh for several (5-10) years in the weather.

Nice computer desk! I would like to make myself one. What are the dimensions of yours?
