Showcase cover image for Bar Stool Seats - My first Woodworking paycheck.

Project Information

Howdy LumberJocks,

I've sold my carpentry work before but it was always covered with fabric. I don't consider that to be woodworking.
This time one of the ladies at work asked me If I knew a carpenter who could make her seats for her ironwork barstools. I said, "I might be able to do that. What would you like?" 15 inch rounds made out of Oak.

The next day she showed me pictures and I gave her my sketch.

I'm thinking some of you could actually make good money at $75 each but I'm too slow. I'm at about $10.00 an hour on these. That's Ok I suppose because I built a table saw circle jig and a table saw miter jig. The miter jig is off by a fraction so I need to tweak it before I attempt to use it again.

I screwed up big when I drilled a center hole for the circle jig. Ah well - I hope the center dowel is a nice touch instead of a glaring mistake. I need to quit some of this freehand stuff with the drills. Please send my fathers day drill press to Carrollton Texas, Care of the Fiddler.

I'd like to give credit here for the circle jig. Mind you, my saw came to a full stop before I ever put my hands near the blade. I'm not as confident as he was in the video. As long as there was a sliver of wood to pick up. I stopped the saw completely. I didn't leave the saw on all the time until all I was removing was dust. Still, for 1.5 thick Oak - I don't think my cheapo Craftsman router table is good enough. I don't have a bandsaw either. Please consider that to be Father's day gift # 2.

One more small job and I have enough cash for my bedroom floor. Working hard so I can work hard???!!! There's something wrong with me. Must be the humidity.

Congrat on the commission. They look good.

I am working on 2 bookcases I thought would take 2 to 3 weekend top.
I have now spent 7 weekends. There is always a screw up here and there.
I hopping I would be installing them next weekend.

Hope you get the bedroom floor soon.

I like it. Much more interesting than a covered seat.

Hey guys thanks for the compliments. A year ago I would not have considered anything like this. Thanks to you all I never doubted that I could pull it off. I hope that doesn't sound arrogant. I just wanted to give the credit to you all.
