Project Information

I found a 14" Delta band saw on Craigslist for $100. What a great deal and huge improvement over my Black and Decker bench top band saw. I agreed to buy it and as we moved it out of it's old home I noticed the table was very wobbly. I looked underneath and both trunnions were broken. I thought for a minute about not getting it then figured the replacement parts couldn't be too much money. I got home with my new broken saw and went on LJs to find out what to do. I read a few forums that referred to the Delta trunnions as POS I couldn't have agreed more at that time. I found a local Delta parts and service center and they had both trunnions in stock for $18.50. The repair was simple, unbolt the old trunnions from the underside of the table. slide the tightening bolt with shoe through the new trunnion making sure shoe seats properly. Bolt new trunnions to underside of table. Place table back on saw being careful that the tightening bolts go through holes in the trunnion support, then reattach tightening knobs. I am very glad I still got the saw despite its condition at purchase. For less than a $20 repair I have a saw that cuts like new!

You sound pretty happy with your new bandsaw. I have an opportunity to get a Delta just like yours that has low miles on it for $300.00, do you think this is to much for the saw?

Chuck, Yes I am happy such an improvement over my old one. I was in the market for a new used band saw and expected to pay $250 -$400. If the trunnions are broken it is an easy fix and should give you some good price negotiation room.

Looks like the left side of the casting that the trunions ride on was also broken. Did you look into replacing that part?

tyvekboy, No the trunnion support casting is not broken. I think the camera flash might have created a glare that looks like a cracked casting. I just saw that the price for that casting is $75. So I am glad that did not need to be replaced.
