Project Information

The large two drawer box was for my wife, the four smaller for mom, mom inlaw, grandma and sister. The smallest box was for my neice. All from black walnut with 6 coats of minwax poly. This was my first go with bandsaw boxes in boy was it an education.

Thanks guys, the shapes for the four like boxes and the large box came out of a book of patterns. The small box was free hand.

Matthew, Great job on your bandsaw boxes. I know everyone that received one loved them…...and I would guess you ended up with some sore fingers from all that sanding! LOL.

Huff: Your not kidding about the sore fingers about an hour per box and that is with a spindle sander. Note to self cut closer to the darn line.

degoose: Thanks, the freehand box started out looking like a flower laid on its side. By the time I was done it looked more like a duck. Told my neice what ever it looks like to you is what it was suppose to be.

Thanks for you comments all.

Nice looking boxes. Unfortunately, sanding is inevitable, especially with these boxes. A spindle sander (oscillating, even better) is definitely the way to go. These gained great popularity in my family this year. I gave away one this year at the family Christmas and now I have requests enough to keep me busy for the next few months! Now to find 'paying customers'.... :) As far as designs/appearances, I am often reminded by LJ's that there are no "flaws", just artisic variations. Keep it up!!
