Project Information

This is my bamboo and oak wood block prototype. The body is made from a large bamboo flooring sample at Lowe's. Back is 1" solid oak. This will allow me to add a mounting bracket later. The bamboo ridge on the top edge more evenly distributes the striking vibration for a louder soul piercing sound. The slit cuts in the sides were for tuning to the final pitch I desired.

Very cool Steve. As a drummer, I would love to hear what it sounds like. The only musical sounds that I've heard with bamboo have been flutes and chimes. I wonder where this comes in pitch and tone-wise when compared to some of the LP and other blocks out there. Nicely done!

It comes in at about #2 and #3 in the sets you would find in most high school band department. What makes it so lovable to me is it has the pearcing sound of a synthetic wood block, and the resonant drawn out tone of a real wooden block.

Thank you!
