Showcase cover image for Baby Crib

Project Information

Well, the crib is finally complete. It was done using cherry for the majority of the unit, with accents of maple on the top of the end caps. The finish was 3 coats of wipe-on satin poly., which I have become a believer in through this project.

Now that this project is done, I'm taking a little break, but may continue doing some experimentation woodworking with different methods and designs.

Great project Rick. Baby cribs are a challenge to make. Whole lot of thought and labor.

Excellent! I really like the contrast between the cherry and maple - classic combination. Very nice clean and crisp work.

I'll echo what David and Sawhorse said: the maple inserts really make this a standout. It would have been much easier to just use all the same wood - we're glad you didn't :).

Very nice piece.

I will have to try the wipe-on polly. Mostly I spray lacquer but the fumes are troublesome.
