Project Information

Bocote and Bubinga rings

The bigger, redder one of the pair is Bubinga, which is bookmatched - cut from the same piece and glued up so that the both outer bands seem to mirror each other. This is cut from the same block as this bottlestopper:

Accented with a walnut center band and finished with walnut oil. US size 10 1/4 - 1/2 (20 mm inside diameter), 1 cm wide.

The smaller, striped one is Bocote, recognize this from the photo of the pen posted 2 projects back:

The smallest I've made to date. If I get much smaller, I might have to use X-acto knives as chisels!
Paired with with cherry, and finished with multiple applications of bowling alley wax. US size 7 3/4 - 8. (18 mm inside diameter), 7 mm wide.

These are the 13th and 14th projects in my 30 projects in 30 days challenge

The rings look fantastic. I am going to have to try them. With the right wood there is a lot of character.
