This bowl is Ash, the inlay and collar are Makore. It is finished with a gloss wipe on poly. If you are interested the idea came from the August 2010 edition of American Woodturner. Thanks for looking.
That is one beautiful bowl. Did you laminate on the Makore in one flat piece and then turn through it to make the two rings? That is a real eye catcher!!!!!!!!!!!
Great looking hollow form, I really like the color combination between the two woods. The finish is sweet as well. I agree with Jim, were the two laminated together or did you do something different and what is the size and finish…
Thanks for the interest. The piece is 8 1/2 inches in diameter and about 4 inches in height. The inlay and the collar were turned from the same block of wood. The inlay was turned to fit the inlay groove that I put in the bowl and the collar was laminated to the bowl blank prior to hollowing. The finish is a Minwax wipe on poly (gloss). Hope that helps.
