Project Information

Hello all. Been watching the forum and other's projects for a while, so I thought it time to post a couple of mine. This is 1 of 2 boxes I did last weekend. This one is walnut and ash. Walnut is the top, ash is the darker wood. At least that is what it was sold to me as. I did splined miter joints on this one.

Great little box!
Those woods really compliment each other and the splined miter joints look fantastic.

Thanks guys. Just a little more info. The box is about 5"x7" and 4" tall. The box was sanded to 220 grit. The finish started with tung oil, wipe down with steel wool, then sprayed on 3 coats of clear lacquer, sanding with #0000 steel wool between coats, then finished with Johnson's paste wax applied with #0000 steel wool.
I bought the ash from a 'retired' woodworker. The pieces were 4"x12"x6', and a couple of 8' pieces. He said they were too heavy for him to work, and he didn't have anything to cut them except a chainsaw.
The walnut came out of a barn from a couple that owned a cabinet shop a few years ago, and this was a couple pallets that didn't get used.
I have ash and walnut to use for many more projects.
