This is an Arts and Crafts style wine tabouret in quartersawn red oak that I have wanted to build since 2005. When I searched for period wine racks in the A&C style all I could find were cellarettes (closed cabinets). I was looking for an open tabouret style. This tabouret is based, in part, on a project from Today's Woodworker (issue 50, March 1997). The original was designed to hold 14 bottles.
This table is 16"w, 13" d and 24"h. It features through mortise and tenon construction for the rails and the top. It is design to hold four wine bottles and up to nine wine glasses. By changing the bottle spacing, it could be built to hold six bottles. The table is finished with Trans Tint honey amber dye, seal coated with General Finishes Seal-A-Cell, glazed with walnut gel stain and top-coated with General Satin Arm-R-Seal. The final step was waxing with light brown Briwax.
