Eric, this looks real nice. I am focusing on the top. To my eye, I would smooth the transition from the top moulding to the body and reduce the rails and stiles of the door. Make sense? I have a clock in my projects that I built following the Oak Tall Case clock Norm did some years back and I made that cove on the table saw. good luck with the project, keep us posted. Rick

Dave, your sketch visually explains what I was trying to say, looking at the front view by widening the sides. I was thinking of adding a cove mould under the top to accomplish the same thing, but that may have not been true to the A&C design.

Thanks, guys. I did make the rail dimension change that Dave suggested after building the prototype - just looked unbalanced with the thin rail. The original thought was to present a larger panel featuring more of a nice flakey QSWO. I think Rick is suggesting some cove moulding to soften the transition from the top to the clock case. I generally do not employ moulding in craftsman style pieces and allow transitions to be what they are. I'll model it in sketchup though and see what it does to lines.

Looks like a great clock ,I think the scale of the clock face should be a little smaller in relation to the case. But this still looks good.

The added cove would not add to the appearance. Might want to reduce the thickness of the top or change the size of the overhange by reducing the angle from what looks like 45 degrees to something less (say 35 deg). Is the clock face from Clock Prints?

Jim, you've hit on the issue I'm struggling with the most. I have a number of folks wanting a clock of this relative dimension and form with the large clock face. I'm working through another that increases the dimensions about 25%, while keeping the 7 inch clock face. That does seem better. I does have the wider side rails which also helps. I'll post it as well when the prototype is built. I do model everything in sketchup, but I like building to get the real feel of it.

The top is cut at 35 degrees. I think the photo angles make appear to be closer to 45. The clock face in the prototype and in the separate picture are from Klockit.com. I am looking at the faces from Clockprints.com, though.

I'm a Arts & Craft fan and like clocks too so its hard for me to find a place to improve this.

The top seems a little heavy, maybe the beveled cut could be increased so the top edge is thinner. Hope you can understand what I'm trying to say.

Also this might be a good way to transition the top and sides

I love the clock ejv. I really want to make a nice clock for us. My only thought was that it looked a bit top-heavy. If the rail under the clock face was a bit wider across the grain, it would ground the piece more. That would also allow you to make the arch a bit more pronounced without cutting into the rail too much. This would visually put the center of the face above the center of the clock's total height.

I really appreciate the input from everyone. I am going to incorporate some of the suggestions, model them, and do another prototype. I will post it when complete. Truly an awesome thing when you can gain input and insight from others across the country that share your interests.

Beautiful design! I want to build a Mantle clock A&C for my daughter and want to know where I can find the face cards and movements for these types of clocks and larger also. Thanks for any info.

I like it!! I know this is kind of past due since this was posted 150 days ago, but if your looking for critic's still the only thing i might change and i stress might, would make the top a little bit smaller. Then the whole idea of molding would just go away.. Anyway have fun,
