Project Information

Another christmas gift, this one for my brother. He had this picture and had been wanting to get it frame but hadn't found anything he wanted. I decided it would be a good gift to frame it for him.

We have lived in New Mexico, so the picture is a familiar scene. Wanted to do something that blended with the art and the culture of the state but not to "Tourist" southwest. The cloudlift blended well and the blood wood picked up with the purple/pink hues of the sunset.

I am curious on what you all think.

Joints are mortise and tennon. Finish is shellac with danish oil.

This is an interesting frame. I like both the wood choice and the design. This is a piece that get your attention. I have not seen a cloud lift incorporated into a picture frame before but it gives this piece a unique look. Framers generally try to coordinate the matting with the artwork but coordinating with the frame material, itself, is a unique presentation of the artwork.

Well done. Nice job on the finish as well.

I like the cloud lift design. Very nice.

I've blogged about the subject of picture framing at http://lumberjocks.com/jocks/kewald/blog for those who may be interested in learning a bit more about the technicalities of this subject.

My last business was custom picture framing and I am a Certified Picture Framer.
