Project Information

I finished this in December 12'. It's a design of my own made using Birch plywood for the body and basic clear pine for the face frames. The shelves are also birch ply with a pine front stripped attached with glue. The top is a glue up of some 5/4 pine. The case is held together with simple dado/rabbet joinery and the face frames were pocket screwed together and attached with glue and clamps. I made them all a little oversized and trimmed them to fit using a jack plane. Finish is a minwax 225 mahogany with 2 gloss clear coats.

Nice color , I thought it was Walnut at first glance.
Are the shelves adjustable in your bookcase , and if so , did you make extra shelves to hold more books in it ? The shelf spacing appears to be quite large for books , at least in the photo provided : )

Thanks. It was a fun project and really useful. The shelves are adjustable. They spacing in the photo is wide because two of the tiers actually don't have books on them, there are photos and knick knacks among other things. My wife has all of her cookbooks, which are quite large, on the bottom shelf. And on one of the other shelves I have many of my woodworking books, which are also fairly large. Build and finish time on this one was about 20 hours.

Very beautiful and sturdy book case. Like the design, wood and the finish. Great home for the books.
