Project Information

This coffee table was designed and made for a customer with a large cigar room. The elliptical top size is 60" wide X 80" long with a total height of 22" The shape of the base is an art Nouveau style. This style was at its peak in France around 1910. Art Nouveau was inspired by natural forms such as flowers, trees, ect. My inspiration came from a Designer/furniture maker named Eugene Vallin 1856-1922.

The top has a marquetry picture of a lake and trees with a water reflection. There are 450 different pieces of veneer to create the top marquetry. The elliptical shape of the top really help add to the Art Nouveau overall style of the coffee table.

This was a really fun piece of furniture to make, the time frame was four months which wasn't a long enough time frame. I had to push hard, 1200 hours in a 4 month time period. I still love every moment of it. I think us woodworkers are a little crazy. lol Thank you for looking!!!

Dennis…this is Incredible...this is a most unique and fantastic creation. I have watched your ongoing progress photos and the finished table is awesome. 1200 hours is quite a bit of time for any project. Good thing your client has very deep pockets.

Gorgeous is an understatement.

The legs, feet and stretchers appear to be liquid in suspension.

Beautiful work Dennis.

This is just perfect Dennis. The marquetry is wonderful and the carving and shaping of the base are arguably even better. The balance and visual appeal of the combination is …...... well, perfect.
It must give you a very good feeling to finally be able to see in the flesh what you have seen in your mind for so long.

Great journey, and an amazingly beautiful result. Congrats and thank you for taking us along.

Dennis,
Really appreciate you taking us on the journey of making this. Was cool to see it develop. To be honest, I wasn't too sure about the base design, but it looks terrific now that it's finished. How did you stain and finish it? Would love to see some pictures of it in it's final home (I'm a cigar nut also - so that kind of appeals to me!).
