Project Information
This is the second chair of this style that I have made.
The first chair - the spoon chair was a gift for my nephew. I liked the chair and decided to make one for myself, but have since decided to give it to a friend. The slender back design of the chair is inspired by Charles Rohlfs 1898 Desk Chair The back design is based on a cutlery pattern that I liked.
It is similar to the first chair with a few small changes. The legs on this chair are little different than the first version and the carving of the decorative banners is a little bit sharper and crisper. The chair is made from reused mahogany base board and door jambs salvaged from a home renovation project.
The mahogany was thickness planed and laminated or bent laminated together to make the various pieces. The decorative elements are walnut.
It is finished with Miniwax stain and then three coats of tung oil and buffed with dark wax.
