Project Information

Finally! A project isn't really done until it is posted on LJ's, is it? Needless to say this was a very challenging project, at least for me. It seems like every part had to be built or rebuilt, finished and refinished a number of times before getting it right. And I had to 'invent' or at least discover a number of techniques, skills, solutions, and joints that were very new to me. This journey is being documented in the new blog series Art Deco TV Table with the first chapter Form Follows Folly already posted. http://lumberjocks.com/newTim/blog/71162

The table is made out of holly veneer and solid where appropriate, and tinted/dyed sapele. Some of the photos show it with a glass top I had cut to protect against scratches and such from heavy use. All in all, this was a very satisfying project. I learned a lot and it is proving to be a great solution to a very specific design challenge. I hope you enjoy it and the blog. It is good to be back on LJ's.

Tim,

Absolutely outstanding in every way. What a beautifully practical table . . . and storage, too! A winner!

Thanks everybody. I will post the second chapter of the build blog ASAP. There is some interesting joinery (drawer sides to drawer fronts), and other design features (dovetail drawer guides), jigs, etc. that will be shown.

Great design and great execution. Love how you have captured the Art Deco influence with the contrasting woods and the symmetrical steps.

Wow!! Awesome job!!! Mind if I attempt this out of cedar?

Somebody said it looked like a Miami tower…... Just think if it had different colored led lights embedded into the bottom side of the bands, how it would look at night. Hmmmm. :)

Thanks again. I don't mind if you make one. Just send me a link as I'd love to see it. A friend said it looked like a classic wooden boat and I have to agree. Many were made in the 30's Deco style so I guess it fits.

Thanks Tim.
I'm sure it's gonna be a while, but I'll be sure to post it when/if I get around to tackling this project.

May I ask what a table like yours sold for?
