Wow - that is fantastic!! I love working with ambrosia maple too.
Did you have the glass bowl and just design the size off of that?
How did you finish it?

Thanks Bill! This one was going to go to a new shop opening up in my area this is selling my work but… My lovely wife talked me into keeping it. I'm sure glad she did, I've made one of these for everyone but me it seems like and I LOVE chips and salsa!

Miss Twirly :),

Yes, I did have the dish before turning and made the piece fit the glass dish. I actually bought a handful of the glass dishes so that people don't have to worry about salsa or any other dip staining the wood.

I sanded the outside to 600 and the inside to 400 burnished it and then used walnut oil for the finish. There is only 1 coat on the inside in the picture.

I'm glad you like the piece!

Glad you like it! It's just shy of 3" deep in the "chip" area.

Yea that is a beauty. Items like this make me wish I used a lathe. Don't think I can make these on my Ring Master

Real nice. I guess I never thought of putting a glass insert in to make it neater. Nice job.

Thanks Dave! The glass bowl isn't necessary, but I do think it adds a little to the look of the piece.

Well-turned piece.
The spalting gives it real character.
All you need is a cold one…..aaaaahhhhh….

Thanks guys!

A cold one doesn't sound bad at all!

Not sure if y'all can tell from the photo but there is a rock of bird's eye in there too! Definitely a gorgeous piece of wood.
