Project Information

I made two of these one for my parents and one for my grand parents. When I was growing up we use to play a lot of games . So when I was tring to think of a christmas gift I thought it would be nice to make a box that had all the games together. So I made a chess board for the top. Then bought the marble bit from rockler and put a aggravation marble game on it .On the in side I made a spot for cards, poker, chips, marbles, dice, yahtzee score cards, and chess peces. It was made of oak and paduak. The box was mitered and I added splines for strenth.I was alot of fun to make.

Splendid game box Darren.

You must have steel nerves. I wouldn´t dare to drill such holes !! They came out perfect.

Very nice. I, also made one of these for a grand daughter who is a checkers fanatic. I have been having a hard time trying to figure out what to put on the inside of the box. Now that I see what you have done my problem is solved. Very very nice work

LOL, How can you call that a game box? Where's the keyboard? Where's the controller? And where do you plug in the software? LOL

Good job. Nice to see that somebody still can have fun without being hardwired to an electronic pleasure device.

Darren, First.. Welcome to LumberJocks.
Second.. Great idea. I have had a similiar idea for a while to build something for my father-in-laws cabin. adding the marble game to the chess board is a great addition and I will be keeping it in mind.

Nice box! But where is the chess set? You have two compartments left.

Thanks for the comments. I had not bought the chess set yet. I was planing to get one and get a nice bag to put them in. The bag would store in the big compartment. The smaller compartment is for another deck of cards like maby uno.

You could also cut some checkers for them.

I did something like that a few years back. Made my own jig from aluminum for the Aggravation, made it a 4 spoke game. I did use the Rockler bit to drill the marble holes though. I made it so the top would just slide out, the Aggravation was on one side. That made it sort of like a briefcase, with a top that came away. Then, there was a Chinese Checkers board underneath. Room for marbles and dice, not much left for decks of cards though.

Do you think the marble holes detract from the chess board on yours?

Ever thought about making the chess pieces yourself? I've seen patterns, both turned and saw cut and carved.

good job. Gotta love mitered corners and splines.
