Project Information

This is a little diddy I whipped up because I had the veneer (toma) and some left over alder from a job we did that required 10/4. The top is Toma bordered with purple heart inlay. The stain is a light coat of mohawk ultra penatrating stain (cherry) that was thinned. Then it was toned with the dark color, taking several coats to achieve the two tone result. I made the table first then desided it would be nice if it came with the vase. Turning is one of my favorite things to do in woodworking, so to be able to mix it in with everything else is always a pleasure. One day I will post some pictures of some vanities I did that I turned the legs for, but until then, enjoy.

Nice lines and the contrast in color really puts the focus on the veneered top. Is staining alder as difficult as staining birch?

Nice table. I like the veneer on top and the purple heart is cool around it. The two woods go good together.

kolwdwrkr, I agree with your comments on turning. The only problem is getting the time to concentrate on it.

I love the look of a simply beautiful piece of art. Thank you so much for understanding how woods can help each other to become whole. The proportions are perfect. The contrast between the stunning toma and the understated purpleheart is grand. Thank you for sharing….......
