Project Information
It is the time of the year when there is only light for a short time during the day. Here in southern Sweden we get around six hours daylight per day in December. Everyone, I think, is looking forward to winter solstice December 22:nd when the days slowly start to become longer again.
To "lighten up" the situation a bit I felt it was time to renew our advent candlestick. I started with selecting some off-cuts that I saved for some years in the attic from an old project and processed them into usable boards. I first thought that I would do dovetail joinery of the side pieces but since I wanted them to be at an angle (I settled with 7 degrees), it felt a bit cumbersome to get everything right, especially since my dovetailing experience is limited. Actually I made a test piece just to see how it would look like, but in the end I went for just glueing everything together to get a cleaner look of the joints. Boiled linseed oil was used for finishing. I really like how the oil brings out the oak grain pattern.
