Project Information

This is my latest Adirondack design. I wanted to make it different than the typical offset front and back legs attached to an armrest, and keep a flowing back support. After a few mock-ups and full boxes of kindling, this is the final chair. I always get friends of various shapes and sizes to test the width, height and comfort….I got great responses, so it's a go !
I used the 19" wide seat from the new Grandma Chair, but moved the back supports to the outside of the seat panels, to keep clean lines. This made the back nice and wide, for guys with larger shoulders than me ! I used the Grandpa Chair upper back support, but planed the back slats so that there is 1/4" space top to bottom, like the seat slats.
You can make the legs out of thicker stock with a slight width adjustment to the top back support. The height can also be adjusted by adding to the legs. I made the 'whale' shaped arms smaller, but they will still hold your beer !
When cutting up the scrap mock-up parts, I made 2 more back leg supports, and made a pedestal for a side table with a 24" square top….final pics to follow. I think I will use the pedestals for the dining table too. I have many Customers requesting swivel bar height chairs with a matching table, and I think the tops of these chairs will work for that as well.
Please let me know your thoughts….plans coming soon to all 3 sites. Thanks for looking.

I've built several of your "Grandpa Chairs" from your plans. Very well thought out. When will plans for this new chair be available?

I like your design. You've maintianed a lot of the dimensions and beer rests of the original, but I like that so much space is not taken up by the legs sticking so far out the back.

Thanks….yes, I had to be sure the legs were more upright, since these will be Dining Chairs as well.

I like this chair design better than the traditional . Bracebridge, been there a number of times, our church has a camp on those lakes near there, have gone there as my daughter lives in Ontario. Our snow has still not gone yet either. Late Spring by two weeks and still cold. My daughter sent a picture of snow down by Oshawa a few days back.

Another great chair Phil. I really like the fact that you're always doing R&D. Interesting take on combining Adirondack with more traditional chair framing. I'm still serious about building your folding version soon. The beach chairs are always a huge hit whenever we take them somewhere. Also, I'm on a CNC forum and I've pointed them your way.

Thanks a lot Chris for the comments, as well as the recommendation to the forum. I get good results on Instagram on the CNC pages. All CNC files are currently on sale for 25% off the end of April.

Looks like it sits much more upright than most. I think this would make it a much better patio chair, and certainly would be easier on older legs getting in and out. Nice work.

Thanks very much guys :)

It was designed as a dining chair, so it needed to be more upright. It's about the same angle as most resin chairs. One of my buddies said it was the most comfortable chair he has sat in !

Here is the table mock-up….I used the back legs as the pedestal.
