While timber is readily available here in Australia, that metal thingy is a tad harder to come by… legally.

Nice job.

Nice. When I got my 1911 I said I was gonna make some walnut grips, but I haven't yet.

It is so easy to do 1911 Grips. These are the fifth or sixth pair I've made. I want to do some for the M9, but they're a bit more complicated.

"Happiness is a warm gun" - Beatles. I like the way the wood softens the steel; nice.

Pretty.

I'm still getting my shop set up but some 1911 grips are in my near future.

Nice job.
Back when I was working in law enforcement I made grips in a variety of woods for S&W model 39, 59, and 659s which were popular then. I could not make enough to meet the demand.

The 1911 is my favorite handgun of all time and you've honored its greatness with those grips. Beautiful!

Those look great! Did you have to do anything to harden up the wood to be more durable or was it tough enough already? I ask because it seems like most of what I've done with spalted maple was silver maple and not very hard at all.

For firearm grips, Maple is sufficiently hard. If one does not go around pistol whipping others, then the grips should last a pretty long while. They are certainly harder than the wood that was on it when new.

The light color really stands out - very nice. Which pack is the 1911 on in the pics?
