Project Information
As is often the case, the presence of a need motivates creation. This desk was created because my children needed a work station other than the dining room table. While the desk was relatively simple to make I did the best I could to make it look pleasing. In this case function was the primary goal.
I used a piece of 1-1/4" thick furniture grade particle board (the same stuff office furniture is made from) for the work surface. The edge material, as well as the wall mounts and supports, are recycled Poplar that was salvaged from a restaurant remodel. I was only able to apply poly-acrylic to the work surface. The other parts have a couple coats of paste wax.
I was glad to make this project for a couple of different reasons;
1. I enjoy making things for my family.
2. I was able to use up some of that "I might be able to use it some day" material. The material I used for the top was part of an industrial pallet that I've held on to for more than 10 years. I still have a couple of nice sized chunks left over.
