Project Information

The kids asked me what I wanted for my birthday last summer and I told them "safety goggles and hearing protection for you so you can spend time with me in the shop."

That's what I got. My ten-year-old daughter really enjoys woodworking with me. As soon as I opened the wrapping paper, she was dying to try out the new equipment by making something with me. This box was the result.

It's not fancy but my daughter designed it and did everything it was safe for her to do while I supervised. It took about 2 hours for cutting and assembly, followed by some danish oil, and a couple of quick coats of poly. It's amazing how much fun you can have over a weekend with some scrap walnut and some left-over birds-eye maple. The memories will last a long time, too.

Enjoy!

Awesome for you! I keep trying to get my kids out in the shop with me without much success along that front. BTW, if you had not already taken "Dave" as your LJ moniker, I would not be thesoninlaw on here today. (Not that I mind being thesoninlaw)

Great looking box, time with your daughter, it doesn't get any better than that.

Dave, I have a box that I made with my dad 50 years ago. I hope she treasures this box as I do mine. Nice job. Keep boxing and keep posting.

Much more than a box! It's a memory she and you will treasure. Thanks for sharing this.

It's beautiful, like the gorgeous sliding lid. Great to hear father and daughter having quality time in the shop. she'll always remember this. Great job!
