Project Information

A very long time ago I asked my now deceased mother to write down her Cherry Slice recipe for me.
Her baking skills were renowned and I wanted to make sure this recipe wasn't lost over time.
It laid in a drawer for a very long time and recently I came across it and was afraid of losing it, so I had it laminated in heavy archival stock and made a nice frame for it.
Naturally, I made the frame from Cherry, and put in a nice Purpleheart inlay.
The miter splines are Makassar Ebony.
Mounting it was tricky because it is an odd size.
I couldn't find the proper turn-buttons to attach the back, so I used pieces of popsicle stick.
(My depression-era mom would have loved that.)

The frame was finished in Boiled Linseed Oil and Shellac. And a top coat of Wax.

The project came out nice and was fun to make.
I think my dear old mom would have approved.

Thank you for looking and have a great day.

Eric

Eric your Mom would approve of the beautiful frame and the mounting of her handwritten recipe .
Thanks for this post and make all of us remember the important things in life that really matter .
I can only wish I had a item from my mom but all I have is a couple of good pictures I did however make a box in honour of her that is displayed every Christmas .

Nice adapter for the exhaust port on the D735, too.

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!

As a professional Archivist - Thank You for using archival quality stock for preserving. Most people don't know that the non-archival junk does more harm than good.

As the caretaker of my own family's baking traditions - Thank You for preserving one of those great recipes from the past. I learned to bake from my own grandma (the only one of 6 grandchildren who was even interested in learning) and I cherish her recipes. No store bought desserts for my family holiday meals, or anything from a prepackaged mix - homemade from scratch is always the best.

As a woodworker - Thank you for such a great project idea.

Have a great week.

Ok we need a closer pic of the recipe so we can steal it Frames are easy to steal the idea but recipes , not so much. Good job on the frame and saving your mother recipe.
