Project Information

The other day I made a Mobius design and said I had some variations… well yesterday I was playing around with a little celtic corner knot for the Lazy Larry.

The method for making this is similar to the Mobius … just the angles have been changed to protect the innocent…

The Lazy Larry is 19 mm [3/4"] thick and 580 mm [23"] in diameter.. I used Tasmanian Blackwood, New Guniea Rosewood and Queensland Red Cedar for the weave [ just over 50 mm or 2" wide]... with Camphor Laurel as the background and the border…

Having an Incra Mitre Express makes cutting these shapes on the table saw …a cinch…

The circle was cut using a bandsaw. Biscuits were utilised to attach the border to the main square of the knot… Sanded to 240 grit and then three coats of Tung Oil Finish.

Very nicely done!

With all the exotic wood, with names I rarely hear, I wonder what a piece like this cost in material alone.

Just a hunch, Larry, but this one's going to be a very popular one… in other words, now that you know how to make one, you're going to need a thousand just like it!! :)

Gorgeous Larry . I love it, but I think all your boards could be best sellers including this one. Do you advise your customers to only do cutting on one side of the board to preserve the fresh look of the design on the other side? It's always nice to keep a nice show side in a tidy kitchen.

I came very close to saying I liked the second one best. LOL
Love those woods! And another wonderful design… which translates into another design I would like to try.

Very nice Larry. That looks like a winner.
Nice wood selection too. The browns are just different enough to pull it off.

I know you have an Icra Express, but do you measure your cuts, or sneek up on the first ones until they fit, and then lock the stop block.

You are having too much fun Sir,
Steve

Very nice and creative as usual. As someone of Irish extraction, it set my heart atwitter to see something a little bit Celtic from down under.
